Insert, move, or delete page breaks in a worksheet
Managing page breaks in Excel helps control how your worksheet prints across multiple pages. Here’s how to insert, move, and delete them:
✅ Insert a Page Break
➤ For Horizontal Page Break (between rows):
- Select the row below where you want the page to break.
- Go to the Page Layout tab.
- Click Breaks → Insert Page Break.
➤ For Vertical Page Break (between columns):
- Select the column to the right of where you want the break.
- Go to Page Layout → Breaks → Insert Page Break.
🔀 Move a Page Break
- Go to View tab → click Page Break Preview.
- You’ll see solid blue lines (manual) and dashed lines (automatic).
- Click and drag the blue line to a new location (row or column).
- When done, switch back to Normal View (View tab → Normal).
💡 If Excel won’t let you move page breaks, make sure cell drag-and-drop is enabled:
File → Options → Advanced → check Enable fill handle and cell drag-and-drop.
❌ Delete a Page Break
- Select the row below (or column to the right) of the page break.
- Go to Page Layout → Breaks → Remove Page Break.
To remove all manual breaks:
- Go to Page Layout → Breaks → Reset All Page Breaks.
👁️ Tip: View All Page Breaks
- Use Page Break Preview (View tab → Page Break Preview) to see exactly how your sheet splits across pages and adjust visually.
